Red Cedar is a Washington Service Corps member serving the Thurston Conservation District and South Sound G.R.E.E.N. program since September 2024. They interned at SSG in the spring of 2024 through the Evergreen State College, where they received a Bachelor of Science and a certificate in Marine Bioresources. Red is excited to return to the Conservation District and continue making connections in the community.

They are a life-long resident of the Olympia and south Puget Sound area. In fact, they participated in water quality testing with SSG as a student. Growing up along our truly unique “fertile fjord” instilled a sense of curiosity and appreciation regarding the natural world that still remains today. Red’s goal as an educator is to promote mindful thinking and a sense of wonder for the outdoors, especially in an increasingly virtual age. Animals, plants, air, water, and the earth have so much to teach us. There are many connections and exciting moments to be had out in nature.

Beyond time spent in Washington Service Corps, Red enjoys reading, arts and crafts (printmaking, zines, collage, and many more), exploring local parks, birding, and getting down to the beach as much as possible.
